AI in the Sales Stack: Separating Signal from Noise

Every vendor claims their tool uses AI. Very few of them are right. Here's how to evaluate AI sales tools without getting burned.

AI in the Sales Stack: Separating Signal from Noise

The AI Hype Problem

In 2025, every sales tool added 'AI-powered' to its marketing. Most of them meant they added a GPT wrapper to their existing feature set. Real AI in the sales stack means tools that learn from your specific data, adapt to your specific buyers, and improve their output over time. That's a much shorter list.

Where AI Actually Adds Value

The three areas where AI genuinely moves the needle in B2B sales: lead scoring and prioritisation (AI that learns which signals predict conversion in your pipeline), conversation intelligence (tools that analyse call recordings and surface coaching insights), and outreach personalisation at scale (AI that researches prospects and drafts relevant first-touch messages). Everything else is largely noise.

The Evaluation Framework

When evaluating any AI sales tool, ask four questions: What data does it train on — generic or your own? How does it measure its own accuracy? What does the output look like after 90 days versus day one? And what happens to your data if you cancel? Tools that can't answer these questions clearly are not ready for enterprise use.

Our Recommended Stack

For most B2B teams, the AI stack that delivers the best ROI is: a CRM with native AI scoring (HubSpot or Salesforce Einstein), a conversation intelligence tool (Gong or Chorus), and a sequencing tool with AI personalisation (Apollo or Outreach). Start with one, prove the ROI, then add the next. Don't buy all three at once.
